GArena and Warcraft 3

I'm having trouble finding my friend through Garena. We'll both enter the same room in Garena, then hit "start game" to launch the game within Garena, go to Warcraft III and click on Local Area Network. One of us will create the game, and the other cannot see the game that we created. Could this possibly be because we are using the original warcraft III and not "the frozen throne" expansion pack?

GGClient only works with Frozen throne expansion pack, and also needs the update patch as described here.
